Matson Baseball Field

Moorhead, MN New Construction N/A Architecture

Phase I of this project helped prepare the field for use during the 2008 baseball season for the Moorhead High School Spuds baseball team, the VFW Golds baseball team, and the Legion Blues baseball team. Phase I included removal of the old dugouts and stadium structure, new concrete dugouts with rails, pads, and nets for the protection of players and coaches; a short concrete backstop wall, and a “wide–view” net system. An extensive stormwater underground drainage system controls water away from the field and dugouts to address a major deficiency of the old dugouts and field’s back areas.

Phase II included the construction of a new stadium with approximately 500 seats, two new locker room spaces, toilets to address the facility’s expansion needs, some field storage and circulation to connect the locker spaces to the dugouts. Because a major goal of the project is to provide accessibility to the stadium, a new plaza, ramps, and walks connect the new entry location for the field to the concourse level where accessible seating is available.
