MSU Mankato contracted with R. L. Engebretson to renovate a 200-bed facility on its campus to update building systems, improve functionality, achieve a contemporary look for one of nine similar residence halls, and provide housing to meet the needs of current and future students. The project was extremely successful from multiple points of view: quality design work, great working relationships, on time and cost-conscious construction process, and high student satisfaction with the outcome. The project included creating a new entry, exterior wall modifications to install air-conditioner sleeves below each student room window, replacing plumbing in about 24 four-story risers, electric upgrades to all living spaces, radiator replacement in all spaces, a new hallway lighting plan, an ingenious design for student room closet cabinetry, installation of makeup air, new doors, an apartment renovation within the residence hall and a number of cosmetic updates including floors, walls, ceilings, and ceramic tile. This project now serves as a template for renovating other residential facilities.
